Belfast director George Clarke discovered an oddity in the video recorded during the premiere of the film Circus by Charlie Chaplin in 1928.
This photo has provoked strong reactions of scientists and film experts. How can a woman be recorded with a mobile 80 years before it was invented? Right now, nobody can answer this. The frames were run in slow motion and zoomed, and the only response that comes up is - yes, the footage shows a woman who speaks on a mobile phone, which can also be observed because she moves her lips for a few seconds.
Time travel or something else - for now there is no answer to this.
Circus can be seen on a compilation of Chaplin's films, which was released in the UK. This DVD also contains footage behind the scenes, as well as footage made during the recording itself.
